Hi Folks,

During my many round trips from Evans to GT (my son is in his sophomore year), I've noted a lot of Columbia and Richmond County tags with GT stickers heading to and from Atlanta. I can't help but think there are parents in the area who wouldn't mind sharing driving. I just brought my son home for the weekend for a short visit (and to do laundry  :) ). Going up and back on Friday and then repeating the process on Sunday can be pretty tiring.

If your interested in participating in ride sharing you could post on this thread as to when your making your next I20 round trip. Parents can then exchange contact info, meet and greet and decide if that particular ride share works for your family.

I'll be heading up during the Thanksgiving Break and will post my expected departure and arrival times between Evans and GT. Unless my son invites some of his friends home for Thanksgiving, I should have room for a passenger or two.

Thanks for your interest and Go Yellow Jackets!

Hi gtevansga!

I do the same thing and would be very happy to share rides.  My son is a freshman.  I'll be watching the threads here to see if Thanksgiving driving can be coordinated.  There is also a new Facebook group called GT Parents in the CSRA which can be used to coordinate rides.

Too bad we don't have a train between Atlanta and Augusta!

Hi Evelyn Augusta,

Good to hear from you and thanks for the info on GT Parents in the CSRA on Facebook. I'll have to check it out. Also, with the November GT ParentNews (email) reminding everyone that this forum is available, we'll hopefully hear from more Augusta area parents.

With regard to the upcoming Thanksgiving break, my thought is that perhaps I could cover the trip to bring them home if you would like to cover taking them back (or vice versa). The official break starts on the 26th but I'll head up on the 25th to pick my son up after his last class. At this point, I'm not sure what time that will be, but with any luck we'll get out of Atlanta by early afternoon to avoid the dreaded metro rush hour traffic.

I've recently added the email option to my account so that contact info can be exchanged. If my Thanksgiving driving arrangement sounds like it might work for you just drop me an email and we can chat further.

Ideally, if more parents get on board, we can get enough interest to plan on a monthly "shuttle run" with parents taking turns doing the driving.
